Is BOTOX The Fountain of Youth?

The Truth About BOTOX

Many myths surround the beauty and magic of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Some people call it “the fountain of youth,” while others are afraid of it, and I wouldn’t blame them! Getting a needle shot into your face is not something you would voluntarily sign up for! BUT, if you sit down and learn the truth about BOTOX, you will find out why it has become the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure in the skincare industry. Millions of people now have chosen to WANT these needles injected into their faces.

There must be a more significant reason why BOTOX has caught on! I think I uncovered this mystery. Other than being tired of wrinkles and craving younger-looking skin, getting educated about the miracles of BOTOX will help in deciding to book an appointment.

What is BOTOX®?

So, what are the facts? BOTOX® is an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved, non-surgical procedure that temporarily smooths out wrinkles around the forehead, eyebrows, and under-eye area. More than half of the population who have received BOTOX® injections have done it for cosmetic purposes. But BOTOX® can also be used for so much more than a tighter face.

In an article written in 2017 by TIME Magazine, BOTOX® is called “The Drug That’s Treating Everything.” BOTOX® not only helps take shave off years from your face but also helps with depression, heart trouble, migraines, erectile dysfunction, back pain, sweaty palms, and drooling. The benefits of BOTOX® have moved beyond beauty but to more ways to help people improve their lives. BOTOX® has been used on female and male clients to change aesthetic issues or dislikes and help with health concerns.

Who do I pick, where do I go?

It would help if you looked for a Board Certified, experienced doctor. Do your homework, research reviews, look for before and after pictures, and go to a consultation—which most of the time should be free—and you should be in no rush to do the procedure that same day. I can’t stress enough how necessary these steps are, especially when this procedure can go wrong quickly if it is not done by a trained, skilled, and certified professional.

Don’t settle for an Instagram post! Ask around and find the perfect fit for you. You have to feel comfortable when asking questions and not be rushed; you are the one getting BOTOX at the end of the day, so do not be afraid to get as much information as you can.

Preparing ahead of time with some pre-written questions is a good idea too! Ask the doctor about the procedure, their experience doing the procedure, what to expect, pricing, and how often you would need a “retouch.” You can find a general idea of this operation in this blog, but a consultation will give you a clearer picture catered to you. This is why at Elite Medical Skin and Laser Center, we take the time to make sure you feel comfortable with all the steps of the procedure, and we give you all the information needed to decide to work with us.

Pre-BOTOX®

BOTOX® is easy! Understanding the entire process — during treatment and aftercare — will help to keep your mind at ease. This knowledge will help you discern when it the right time to make the appointment for you!

In your consultation Pre-BOTOX®, a doctor should walk you through pre-care and aftercare. Here are a few common things to be aware of days before your rejuvenation treatment

  • Don’t use any blood thinning medications a week before the procedure
  • Stay away from Aspirin, Ibuprofen (either Generic or Advil, Aleve or Motrin), Exedrin, St. John Warts, Vitamin E, Fish Oil or Omega-3s, Ginko Biloba and/ or Ginseng
  • Avoid drinking alcohol a few days before your procedure
  • Make sure to eat a good meal before your appointment to avoid dizziness. It’s also good to bring a snack with you for right before or after the procedure
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid BOTOX® until after you are no longer pregnant or breastfeeding
It’s BOTOX® Time! What should I expect?

This treatment is simple and fast. All together, it takes around ten minutes and does not require any anesthesia. You may experience minor discomfort at the moment of the injection, like any type of injection may feel. Give yourself 24 to 72 hours for the magic to take full effect. You will start to notice the miracle of BOTOX®! We recommended no aggressive touching or manipulating of the skin tht was treated for 3-4 hours after the procedure. You should also expect mild redness, swelling, or bruising after, but it should not last long. Plan out your day ahead of time, so you have time to heal and allow your body to adjust. Remember, you are doing this for yourself so go all in!

Post-BOTOX®

Like any procedure, it is important to have an aftercare plan in place and know what to expect after your injection’s. Even though this procedure is not invasive, there are some things to avoid. These are preventive measures to take so your procedure is more effective. It is crucial that you follow your doctors’ after care plan!

Here are a few common things to avoid Post-BOTOX®. Your doctor should also follow with specific instructions for aftercare.

  • Avoid touching or manipulating the area unless instructed otherwise.
  • Don’t exercise 24 hours after the procedure or do any heavy lifting
  • Stay out of the sun or any heat for the next 24 hours
  • Don’t do any facials, peelings, or microdermabrasion treatments for the next 24 hours
  • Call your doctor if you see anything out of the norm
  • Enjoy your new wrinkle-free, beautiful face!
